Passport Seva, run by the Ministry of External Affairs, processes every Indian passport application — fresh issues, renewals, and Police Clearance Certificates (PCC). After you submit your application at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK), you receive a 15-character file number. Enter your file number and date of birth above to instantly check your live application status — from police verification and printing to dispatch through India Post Speed Post.
Every passport application moves through a series of stages before the passport reaches your doorstep. Here is what each stage means when you track your file number.
Your application, documents, and biometrics are captured at the PSK/POPSK and a file number is generated for tracking.
Where applicable, your local police station verifies your address and background. A clear report moves the file forward for granting.
Once granted, your passport enters the print queue at the central printing facility, is printed, and passes quality checks and lamination.
Your passport is handed over to India Post with a Speed Post tracking number, which you can also track on Track91 for door-to-door delivery updates.
Your file number is printed on the acknowledgement receipt issued at the Passport Seva Kendra. It is a 15-character reference that starts with two letters identifying your Regional Passport Office, followed by 13 digits.

Along with the file number, Passport Seva requires the applicant's date of birth to look up the application status. Track91 asks for it once and uses it only for status lookups.
Your file number is printed on the acknowledgement letter/receipt issued after your appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra. It is also sent to you by SMS and email from Passport Seva.
The official Passport Seva status service verifies the file number against the applicant's date of birth before revealing the application status. Track91 sends it securely to Passport Seva for the lookup and does not share it with anyone else.
Once dispatched, your passport travels through India Post Speed Post. The dispatch status includes a Speed Post tracking number (for example, PP734291814IN) that you can track on Track91 under India Post for detailed delivery updates.
This usually means the file number or date of birth does not match Passport Seva records, or the application is too old and has been archived. Double-check both values against your acknowledgement receipt and try again.
