About GLS Netherlands

GLS Netherlands is the Dutch network of the GLS Group, running its own parcel centres, regional depots and ParcelShop points across the country. It answers on a separate Dutch track-and-trace backend rather than the pan-European GLS service, which is why a Dutch parcel number often returns nothing on the group tracker. That backend is also noticeably richer: given the parcel number and the delivery postcode it publishes every depot scan, the sender and recipient addresses, the measured weight and dimensions, and the delivery location.

GLS Netherlands services

Domestic parcel delivery

The core service is next-business-day delivery within the Netherlands for parcels handed over before the daily cut-off. The timeline makes the two halves of that journey visible: an overnight sort at a parcel centre, then a morning loading scan at the regional depot that actually serves the recipient's address. The depot named on the newest scan is the one holding the parcel.

ParcelShops and lockers

GLS operates a network of ParcelShop drop-off and collection points alongside home delivery, and parcels can be diverted to one when nobody is home. The closing event says explicitly where a parcel ended up, so delivery to a shop or an automated point is recorded separately from a handover at the door.

Measured weight and dimensions

Dutch GLS parcel centres weigh and measure each parcel on the sorting belt, and the tracker publishes both the weight the sender declared and the weight the machine recorded, along with length, width and height. Track91 shows the measured values, which are a useful sanity check when a shipment looks like it may have been swapped or repacked.

Returns and redirections

Return consignments and parcels going back to the sender are flagged in the payload rather than only hinted at in prose, and a cancelled shipment is marked as such. Track91 reads those flags, so a parcel travelling back to a webshop is shown on the return branch of the timeline instead of looking like an ordinary delivery in progress.

Why the delivery postcode is required

The Dutch GLS backend keys every lookup on the parcel number together with the delivery postcode. Supplying the number on its own returns an empty response for every parcel, not just unknown ones, so Track91 asks for the postcode before making the request. It is the four digits and two letters printed on the shipping label, for example 3525GW, written with or without a space. The pairing also acts as a privacy check, since the response includes the recipient's street address. A mismatched postcode looks exactly like an unknown parcel, so it is worth re-reading the label before concluding the number is wrong.

Finding your parcel number

Dutch GLS parcel numbers are numeric, typically eleven to fourteen digits, for example 12345678901234, which is a generic illustration rather than a real shipment. The number appears under the barcode on the label and in the track-and-trace link a webshop emails on dispatch. Senders also print their own reference beside it, often an order or invoice code; that belongs to the sender's system and will not return a history here. Copy the digits exactly, keeping any leading zeros.

Reading GLS Netherlands statuses

The first entries describe registration rather than movement: parcel data entered into the GLS system, then the parcel made ready by the sender. Handed over to GLS is the point at which the carrier takes responsibility. Reached and left the parcel centre are sorting legs, and a parcel can pass through the same centre more than once during an overnight sort. Expected to be delivered during the day means a round is underway. The closing event names the outcome, including delivery to a neighbour, an agreed location or a ParcelShop, and the payload records the delivery coordinates separately.

Getting help with a GLS Netherlands parcel

GLS contracts with the sender rather than the recipient, so a webshop or business sender can usually open an investigation faster than a recipient can. Use the GLS Netherlands customer pages for delivery preferences, ParcelShop choices and redelivery, quoting the parcel number, the delivery postcode and the depot named in the newest scan. Track91 independently displays the published history and cannot change a delivery address, extend a collection period or settle a claim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Help with GLS Netherlands tracking, delays and deliveries. Select a question to read the answer.

How do I track a GLS Netherlands parcel?

Select GLS Netherlands on Track91, enter the parcel number and then add the Dutch delivery postcode when asked. The Dutch GLS system requires both together, and with them it returns every depot scan plus the parcel dimensions and the recorded delivery.

Why does GLS Netherlands ask for a postcode as well as the parcel number?

The Dutch network keys its lookups on the pair, so the parcel number alone returns nothing at all, for every parcel. Supplying the delivery postcode printed on the label is what identifies the shipment and also keeps a stranger from reading someone else's delivery address.

What format does a GLS Netherlands parcel number use?

Dutch GLS parcel numbers are numeric and usually eleven to fourteen digits long, for example 12345678901234. Copy the whole number without spaces, keeping any leading zeros. The sender reference printed beside it on the label is a different identifier and will not return a history.

How long does GLS Netherlands delivery take?

Domestic Dutch parcels handed over before the daily cut-off normally arrive the next business day. A parcel entering the network late in the evening is sorted overnight and delivered the following working day. Weekend handovers are sorted on the next working day rather than immediately.

Why is my GLS Netherlands tracking not updating?

The earliest entries only record that the sender registered the parcel in the GLS system, which happens before anything is collected. Real movement starts at the first depot scan. If the record has shown only those announcement entries for several days, the sender has not yet handed the parcel over.

What does "The parcel is expected to be delivered during the day" mean?

It means the parcel has been loaded onto a delivery round, the GLS equivalent of out for delivery. It is not a confirmation of receipt. A later delivery event closes the record and states whether the parcel went to the door, to a neighbour, to an agreed location or to a ParcelShop.

Can I track GLS Netherlands without the parcel number?

No. Both the parcel number and the delivery postcode are needed. They appear on the shipping label and in the notification the sender or webshop sends. Track91 cannot search by recipient name, street address or telephone number, so ask the sender if the number is missing.

Is Track91 affiliated with GLS Netherlands?

No. Track91 is an independent tracking service showing published shipment events. GLS and its Dutch network remain responsible for handling and customer enquiries. Contact GLS or the sender about address changes, redelivery, ParcelShop collection, claims and proof of delivery.
